WELCOME BACK TO A NEW SKATING SEASON

Updated: Oct 28, 2019

The BFSC Coaches (Debra Geary, Jennifer Parsons and Tara Thurbide) would like to welcome back all our returning skaters and a big welcome to our new skaters. We have lots of exciting events going on throughout the year!

We have been busy all summer preparing for this season. You will notice some changes to some of our programs that are initiatives through Skate Canada. The new Star 6-Gold is still in progress as new information comes to coaches weekly. The artistic discipline will look different and is only available to skaters who have passed Star 3 Skills. We are also using the feedback we received from the survey we sent to all families last spring to revise some of our former coaching practices.

For this season, if a skater is not on the ice for her lesson, she will miss it. Coaches will post lesson schedules so that everyone will know the date they will have a group/private lesson. The order of lessons will change so that the same skater will not always have the first or last lesson. There will be NO make-up lessons this year (as a result of feedback from the parent survey). If a skater is absent on their private lesson date this will unfortunately not be accommodated. Please text, email or call your base coach if your child will be absent for a skating session.

This year no skater will be allowed on the ice with jeans or tight pants. Movement is restricted therefore please be prepared before you come to the arena. All long hair must also be tied back.

All skaters MUST attend development sessions which will be organized twice a week. Various skills will be introduced and taught by each of the three coaches at different times. This is very fundamental for skill development in all skating disciplines.

New this year is a pre-registration process whereby coaches had to send approximate numbers of skaters attending competition events in Fort Frances and Thunder Bay. More information regarding these competitions will be posted later this season.

Please check our BFSC Facebook page often for updates and cancellations.

Monica Lockie (Skate Canada Skating Development Director) will be at our arena the weekend of Sept 20th for a skating seminar! More info to follow. EFSC members will also be invited.

A BIG thank you to coach Jen as she continues to lead our off-ice sessions this year. Place, dates and time tbd.

Looking forward to a great season for all BFSC skaters!
